@bobtfish @shollingsworth Neither of you has provided a reason why it's a good idea to remove all the distro-specific files from /etc/cron.d.
Enabling clean would force you to write distro-and-version-specific manifests to restore those files.
You should probably also put a warning about that into the docs along with this change.
