that tweet is quite old and there has been quite some back and forth, e.g. #6803 and #6557, so I'm doubting the changes in the PR as is as accurate. unless you have tested?

Animated AVIF is still not supported on iOS and there appears to be no flags to enable it either.
Both the Webkit and Apple release notes seems to have gotten it wrong (in different ways?) and the same person who sent the tweet later made a PR reverting animated images being supported.
