Add static images to canvas

It may prove useful, e.g. for educators, to be able to add static images (jpeg, svg, png) to the canvas. That way, they could annotate the images, and enhance their presentation.

Background

I am researching how the Khan Academy educational framework could be extended with a hybrid animation framework, as opposed to the current, static video model.
