One place in particular that benchmarking and testing alternative approaches is in the internal DecisionCore module. It currently uses a FlowChart GADT. This is to make testing individual decision steps possible, which has helped find a number of bugs that would have been difficult to find otherwise. One possible alternative is a CPS implementation, but benchmarking is necessary to determine whether either is better.
