Here is an example of an area that will change its significance based on the new funnel plot method (East Riding of Yorkshire)

  • Fingertips Significance: Higher than England at 95% confidence
  • Old Excel Tool Significance: Higher than England at 95% confidence
  • New Excel Tool Significance: Similar to England at 95% confidence

I've got some thoughts about funnel plots that I'd like to see incorporated into the function(s).

Overdispersion is a common problem with the data I analyse. Many funnel plot tools do not handle this. I'd like to see it handled within any funnel plot function(s) as part of this package. I don't really have enough experience to suggest which approach is the most appropriate to take, but options include:

  • Negative binomial distribution, when dealing with over-dispersed count data
  • Zero-inflated methods for both proportion and count data
