Resizing text viewer and properties columns

It would be nice if there was a way to change the screen proportions of the three different sections (main, text viewer, and properties panels) so that you could customize how much screen width each took up. I like already the ability to detach/dock properties, and if that can be implemented with the text viewer as well that would also be cool.

The left pane automatically adjusts to the size of the program window. The other two can be shown and hidden. I deliberately set them to a fixed width so as not to accidentally mess up the Desktop.

However, if the default setting is not suitable for your screen, you can change it by editing the configuration file.

Steps to change the middle and right pane width

• make sure novelibre is closed
• go to the installation directory .novx
• go to the config subdirectory where the configuration files of novelibre and its installed plugins reside,
• open novx.ini with a text editor
• look for the entries middle_frame_width and right_frame_width
• you can change the sizes in pixels
• save the novx.ini configuration file

If you mess up the novx.ini file by accident, you can simply delete it. novelibre then starts with the default settings and recreates the configuration file.

Anyway, I'd be interested to know how you'd like the desktop to look. Are the panes too wide or too narrow?

As far as undocking is concerned, this is relatively complicated to implement with the GUI toolkit used, especially if there are different combinations of docked and undocked windows.
A separate viewing window would be much easier to implement as a plugin, although it would then not scroll along with the tree selection.

Here is an experimental plugin that allows you to "detach" the text viewer.

It requires the latest novelibre version 5.6+ to work.
Technically, it doesn't really detach the viewer, but it closes the viewer and opens a pop-up window with a resizable second viewer.
I do not intend to maintain it on the long run or develop it further; it's just a proof of concept for playing around.

Thanks, I appreciate the instructions on changing it from the back end. I think I mainly wanted the text viewer to be wider and didn't need as much space on the left panel on the screen. I'll give this a try!
