Presently, the Google Calendar applet has varied size based on the number of upcoming events in the upcoming days, with larger sizes if there are more events listed and smaller sizes if there are fewer.
While this is effective at visualizing information, it's not visually appealing since many users arrange and lock desklets to take a select amount of space: I can't put any shortcuts or other desklets underneath in case busier calendars end up squashing it.
Proposal: include an option to lock desklet size. Instead of including a set number of days, have a maximum number of listed events within the upcoming days. If there are more events than there is available space to show, compress with "X additional events". And if there aren't enough events to fill the space allocated to the desklet, it will simply be blank (but still taken up by the desklet.
