Lisa (she/her) πŸŒˆπŸ’…πŸ‘©β€πŸ’»

How I get my best work done:

  • Plan, plan, plan and then some improv. I like to have a shared vision of how the work we are setting out to do will shape up, especially visually. This means I value taking time to talk through our ideas and a great wireframe, a lot more than I do getting to code straight away.

The role I usually take in a team:

  • I will take on a more passive or active role depending on the people I work with. If there are already strong personalities happy to lead I will follow, otherwise I will happily take the steering wheel and direct.

  • In cases of conflict I am always the "pacificator" who tries to makes everyone's interests and opinions reconcile.

My communication style:

What I value:

Kindness and directeness

What people misunderstand about me:

  • I can come across as really confident but it is a magic trick, I am actually super insecure

Magic trick

How I like to get my feedback:

  • I often feel inadequate (impostor syndrome hello!) and I am very sensitive to other people's judgement and opinions of me so, please be kind when you approach me for feedback. That is, as long as your tone of voice and body language are kind, you can tell me anything.

  • I like to know where I can improve so if you point out what I did wrong, it would be extremely helpful to have a suggestion of what I can do instead.

Technical strengths & weaknesses:

  • I got an eye for style, I adore combining colours, shapes and moods, and creating a story through the visual layout of whatever I produce.

  • Not a CSS wizard yet but I am pretty good with grid.

Interests (programming or otherwise!):

  • Art, I go to exhibitions a lot, pretty much anything that is on in London I will go to, please join me for fun art trips!
  • Plants, I am a plant mama through and through!
  • Poetry, I read a lot of it and sometimes I write it too. Favourite poets include: WisΕ‚awa Szymborska, Patrizia Cavalli, Charles Bukowski, Charles Baudelaire, Arthur Rimbaud.. you get it.
  • Philosophy, I am a philosophy grad and I still love the craft, just do not want to live the academic life anymore. Come to me for any PHIL101 questions, overview of 20th century philosophy or if you want to listen to my views about puzzling Platonic dialogues, Aristotelian ethics and pretty much anything in the region of Existentialism (DeBeauvoir and Sartre were my teenage superheroes).

Really had a lot of fun working with Lisa on our React game! We just worked well together, and she made sure that we were both on the same track. Lisa is really good at planning out projects and at making me feel comfortable to ask for help. She's also a CSS and design guru! Would love to work with her again!

Lisa has incredible vision for a project and is able to create beautiful, user-friendly, efficient designs that made it so easy to replicate in the build sprints. She has a passion for all things aesthetic and will happily investigate and learn about new libraries they look promising. She was also happy to take responsibility for setting up a completely new CI and explain the new technical details to us!
