Can we pull photos from the preview tiles of the pages we're linking to? We would want text fields for article title, news outlet, and date.

When it comes to grabbing photos and preview tiles from websites we're linking to, we run into a bunch of roadblocks. Most sites these days have all sorts of protections in place - they block automated requests, use weird code structures, or just flat-out refuse connections from other domains. Even WordPress's built-in tools struggle with this stuff, which means we'd end up with a pretty broken-looking page design.
I think the best approach is to:
Attempt an embed (paste in the link)
If the embed does not work we use manually pulled content.
