A look at the data:

In the most recent WP Engine activity log (view Google Sheet here)

• 1,233 of 3,000 rows are for the quiz
• 576 of 3,000 rows are for a web-crawler
• 260 of 3,000 rows are for images
• 128 of 3,000 resource visits are to xmlrpc.php

Fixes:

From the first look it looks like the Quiz might be what is causing all the traffic. But we can also apply these fixes:

xmlrpc.php block

The biggest issues with XML-RPC [xmlrpc.php] are the security concerns that arise. The issues aren’t with XML-RPC [xmlrpc.php] directly, but instead how the file can be used to enable a brute force attack on your site.
