Description

Hi,
When I’m editing a huge text blocks at Gutenberg editor and move cursor by keyboard forward and backward keys inside one paragraph – whole visible area is jumping all the time up and down follow the each cursor movement. When you edit huge texts it’s extremely annoying!
How to stop it? How to prevent visible area at Gutenberg editor from jumping by cursor movements?
Or this is a bug/issue?

Step-by-step reproduction instructions

  1. Gutenberg.
  2. Huge text block.
  3. Edit text by cursor moving left-right up-down.
  4. See how whole Gutenberg page is jumping!!

Hey @justdudeone, Thanks for bringing this up.

I tried as suggested and I didn't see any unusual layout shift in the editor -

Maybe if you could provide a screencast of what you're experiencing, we'd be able to debug it better.

Hey @justdudeone,

I tried to replicate your issue on my local and maybe I could identify the jump that happens on cursor movement, and yes it's happening for larger text sizes, for smaller texts it looks good to me

Please let me know if the screencast shared below is the expected problem, or is it something else that you faced 🙇🏻

I'll share my environment details as well:
WordPress: 6.7.1
Theme: TT4
Gutenberg: 20.0.0-rc.1

Thanks

Hey @himanshupathak95
You must try better!

@ronakganatra9, @Rishit30G
Yes, it is the issue!

PS All of you are trying to represent this bug on a "BIG TEXT" (huge letters, big font size), but it's even much more annoying when "big" means "very huge-mass-long text" - it's near to impossible to find the place where cursor is placed after each jump! :(
PPS Amazing that no one does not face to this problem! Seems most people because too lazy now for the long text articles and uses only simple short paragraphs. :(

Please note that the root cause is not the size of the text. This issue probably occurs when a single editable text exceeds the height of the canvas:
