ScenicView needs a rebuild using latest JDKs: it can connect to later running JREs, but is riddled with bugs and odd behaviour. A rebuild with a later JDK solves many of these issues.

This is another important app in the JavaFX ecosystem that has unfortunately been left in disrepair, with issues and PRs being ignored.
