it would be nice to have a multilingual version either by detecting the browser locale or by choosing from a menu, at least for the description of popup fields.
I understand that the translation of values is more problematic, but since they are in English, this can probably be done later.
I'm available to translate somes strings for e.g. in French

Hello Marc,
I've thought about this for a while too and this is defenetly something on the roadmap. This is what we got until now:

• The main task "take the browser local and show everything in the right language" is not so complicated, there are several standard librarys for that.
• If this map becomes multilingual the covered area should become bigger too. Right now this would mean pretty large file sizes to load everytime you visit the page. I'm still looking for a way to avoid this. Ideally I would like to cover the complete globe, but Europe would be a good start too.
• There is a library called tags2names https://github.com/ENT8R/tags2names that could be very helpfull when it comes to translating the OSM tags. It uses the wikidata objects of the OSM Tags.

Thanks a lot for your offer for help, French is definitely on the list for the importaint languages that should be part of the map.

I would like to link farmshops.eu from StreetComplete (an openstreetmap contributor app) to showcase how certain contributed data is used, but it makes no sense to do so until it is at least available in English and the data worldwide.

I still haven't found a way to put the file size to an acceptable level for a global map. I could create a separated map for regions relatively easy for example farmshops.eu/uk /usa and so on. One could create region overview on farmshops.eu where you can jump to your region.

But this idea would still not be ideal, I would really prefer a global map.

@stefangrotz On veggiekarte.de we have a global map, but it takes a long time to load.

But we already support multiple languages. Maybe you can use the same approach. The code is also on GitHub: https://github.com/piratenpanda/veggiekarte
