Context and steps to reproduce

When visiting the site, clicking on the "Edit Site" link on the top admin bar should take to the specific template on screen. This enhancemente was introduced in WordPress/gutenberg#37850 and this is how it still works in core:

Kapture.2025-02-24.at.17.41.51.mp4

On dotcom (simple and AT), the "Edit Site" link at the top takes to the homepage, regardless of where it was clicked from:

Simple:

Atomic:

This is intentional (related WordPress/gutenberg#63785) as it's too easy for people to get stuck in various areas of the site editor unintentionally, as well as ending up clicking "Edit site" to edit a page (like the homepage), but instead see the template view of their page. Instead, you land in one place, and can navigate from there.

Thank you for taking a look, @richtabor. I will keep an eye WordPress/gutenberg#63785

However, I am a bit confused; I see that WordPress/gutenberg#63785 is still under discussion, but it seems to have been implemented in dotcom separately.

Does this mean dotcom intentionally offers a different experience from the core? 🤔
