Previously, WooPayments included built-in subscription functionality for US merchants using Stripe Billing, without requiring WooCommerce Subscriptions. As of WooPayments v6.6.0 (Oct 2023), this feature was updated to require the WooCommerce Subscriptions extension to be installed and activated.

Now that more than a year has passed since this functionality was updated, we are moving forward with officially retiring it, and removing the outdated built-in Subscriptions code from WooPayments.

Important

Only a small number of merchants are still using this legacy implementation. You may be affected if:

• You are a US merchant using WooPayments
• You do not have the WooCommerce Subscriptions extension installed & activated
• You have Stripe Billing enabled under WP Admin > Payments > Settings > Advanced
• You have active subscriptions on your store

If you meet all these criteria, your store is running an outdated Stripe Billing implementation. Please check your email which is linked to your WooPayments account. We have sent instructions on how to get a free copy of WooCommerce Subscriptions from the WooCommerce.com marketplace.
